Jo Sparks
Jo Sparks asked Rainbow Rowell:

I’ve been a fan of yours for a while, have all of your books and all of your comics. Your Runaways run is incredible!! I’ve always loved Runaways, but you elevated the characters in a way I think most comics struggle to do. I’m excited to see what comes next from you, in both novels and comics! How was the transition from traditional writing to writing comics? Did your process change?

Rainbow Rowell Wow, this is such a meaningful compliment. Thank you so much.

The comics writing process IS different ...

In novels, you're talking directly to the readers, trying to paint a picture in their heads.

In comics, your script is really talking to the artist, first, and THEN the reader. You're trying to paint a picture for the artist -- a picture the artist can add to.

I think probably my novel-writing does *affect* my comics writing ... I tend to write the entire arc all at once, almost as if I'm writing a novel. With a beginning, middle and end.

My comics writing also my affects my novel-writing! I've learned to love a cliffhanger.

Not sure if you've seen it, but I'm working on a new monthly Marvel comic -- She-Hulk. I hope you'll give it a try :)
