What science fiction books or authors inspired you in writing "The Martian"?
Andy Weir
One of the biggest inspirations was the film "Apollo 13". Especially the scene where the have to make the CSM filters work with the LM air system. I wanted to write a whole book of basically that scene.

Your book was gripping, descriptive and was entirely plausible. At no point did I feel I needed to consciously suspend my disbelief. Did you base your novel entirely on scientific fact, or did you rely on certain assumptions to enable the story to flow in the direction you wanted?
