Sebastian Maurino
Sebastian Maurino asked Andy Weir:

Did you have a contact at NASA to check your science while writing the book?

Andy Weir No, I didn't have any contacts in aerospace before the book came out. It was just tons and tons of research and math.

More Answered Questions

Rehan Ali
Rehan Ali asked Andy Weir:

Can you give any advice to any authors looking to research and write an authentic "hard-science" sci-fi story? Is it possible to pull it off if you're not already a domain expert with a strong educational background in the area you're writing about?

Rose
Rose asked Andy Weir:

Hi Andy, really enjoyed reading "The Martian" and thank you for an awesome read. How did you become interested in writing about space travel, and what was your process for doing research for the novel?

Don Mario
Don Mario asked Andy Weir:

One cannot read your novel without thinking of Bradbury's "The Martian Chronicles". What do you think of that book? Have you considered the idea of writing a "Bradburian" version of your story? (i.e. an extraterrestrial being observing Watney, or Watney telling the "true" version of his adventure he didn't dare to record on his log)
