How do you get inspired to write?

Rachel Dacus It's a good question and the answer is always elusive to me. What I do know is that I have to be in a certain state of mind to catch inspiration. I give myself an hour every morning to attempt nothing but be ready for everything. That's the state I allow myself to have. Then I simply look at the world around me, and look deeply. The small silver and tan dog curled at my feet, the leaves of the eucalyptus tree outside my window, the line of distant hills. I ask myself if they remind me of anything. I start there and allow things to come through and I grab words to clothe them as they do. And I make no judgments as I write!
