Finknottle asked Kiare Ladner:

Would you describe Nightshift as a thriller?

Kiare Ladner Great question – and no. I would describe it as a bildungsroman, or an adult coming of age story, set in London’s nightshift world. Since setting plays an important role, it could be called urban fiction and, since the protagonist is searching for, and experimenting with, her identity, it could be seen as leaning towards categories of “psychological” and “dark”. At the same time I intended, partly with the crew of nightshift workers, for it to have some lightness too.
