Goodreads asked Nick Glade-Wright:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Nick Glade-Wright At the launch of my first novel 'Growing Sideways' I was approached by a man in his late sixties who asked me if I'd like to 'write his story'. I hesitated but took him to lunch a week later to find his story of abuse, when he was a child, was huge. I told him I didn't think I could write a biography but I suggested using his story as the basis for a character in a fictional novel that could expose and explore this sort of abuse that is under our noses and is a worldwide phenomenon of enormous magnitude. I told him I would want to write something with an optimistic outcome. He was pleased, and so The Paradise Stain began.
