Goodreads asked Kate Darroch:

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Kate Darroch For me, the best thing is that I can say what I like and nobody blows up at me. They might write a really unpleasant review, but that's as bad as it gets. Most of the time, an author's readers listen to the story being told, and if they'd rather hear a different story then they read a different book. But they don't usually tell an author that she's got no right to tell the story she's telling; or that she's a horrible person who must be punished for thinking up that story. For me, that's solid gold. I can tell the story I wish to tell.
