I personally don't think of this book as a romance because a happily ever after (HEA) ending is NOT guaranteed, partly due to the book having multiple endings. I feel that it's better classified as a gothic horror, although it has romance and dark romance elements, and some readers have been categorising it as a dark romance, which is also a valid interpretation.
