Eileen asked Vicky Dreiling:

Hi do you have any advice for a first time writer?

Vicky Dreiling Hi Eileen, If you write romance, I definitely recommend joining Romance Writers of America. I also recommend learning the craft of writing. Here are a few books that should prove helpful: Goal, Motivation, and Conflict by Debra Dixon; Screenwriting Tricks for Authors by Alexandra Sokolov; Self Editing for Fiction Writers by Renni Brown and Dave King. Two things that are super important: Read voraciously and widely. And most of all write. I remember as a very new author realizing that my fledgling manuscript did not have the quality of the romance books I read and loved, but I kept working at my craft. Be persistent. Don't let one rejection deter you. When I give workshops I always tell writers that fear is a writers worst enemy. I wish you the very best with your writing. When you sell that first book, let me know. Cheers!
