I first wrote Jude's Diary as a short story when I was 16. It was inspired by the diary plot decvice in Christopher Pike's Gimme a Kiss (and the original title and character were named Jane in my version, too). I found and re-read my short story just before NaNoWriMo in 2021 and decided there might be enough content to turn it into a novella. By the end of NaNo, it was novel-length. Beta readers gave me the kind of feedback I needed to polish it and turn it into a real page-turner!
