Avanti Centrae Hi Jayson, I keep a notepad of ideas on my phone. As I come across interesting news articles, curious characters, or have out-of-the-blue ideas doing yoga, I jot the ideas down. When it's time to write a new novel, out comes the notes!
In terms of research, it varies. Last week I was able to meet a prison expert for lunch to pick his brain. The internet is full of details that make a story leap from the page. I've had the good fortune to travel the world, but if there's a scene from somewhere I haven't been, I lean into GoogleMaps as well as firsthand traveler accounts.
