Goodreads asked Jessica Lander:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Jessica Lander Whenever I find myself just staring at the screen unable to write or find the structure for a section of a chapter, I stop, close my computer and I take a walk with my wonderful golden retriever Mochi! Sometimes its a 15 minute walk, sometimes a 40 minute walk. I usually take my phone, but I turn off notifications. And often I find that within minutes of setting out along a trail or along a sidewalk, lines of text come to me or the structure of a particular chapter becomes clear. That is where the phone comes in. We'll pause, I'll pull out my phone, jot down the line in a note, and then keep walking. While writing "Making Americans" I often took one to two walks a day to do exactly this.
