I am taking the Read Harder 2023 challenge, and the second task is to read your favourite author's favourite book, and you have long been my favourite author, so if you don't mind my asking, do you have a favourite book, or favourite author?

Lois McMaster Bujold Wow, that's a hard question to answer. There have been many many books I've liked over the years, fewer I've liked over decades, fewer still that I'd want to reread right now, some authors that are lingering faves but have a lot of books or a tight series -- Pratchett, Heyer, Turner, Tolkien. But you need a book, not a bookcase. I'll assume you've read The Lord of the Rings, so let's go with, hm, Georgette Heyer's Cotillion. There are half-a-dozen titles of hers that are first tier that I could have offered instead.

Otherwise, Megan Whalen Turner's fantasy The Thief, but N.B., that's the first book of a 6-book series, and it takes the first three for the full reward to really slot in. (Not a hardship.)

Lois, there are many avenues for us to purchase your books. What is the best one for us to use in order to support you? I read somewhere that buying ebooks from the publisher's website generates the most revenue for the author. Is this true? What do you recommend?

Hello Lois! First of all, thank you for your books. I have enjoyed them a lot. Now, my real question/thoughts. The Miles universe is pretty big. The lore is astonishing (and I LOVE a good lore)... But I think it is pretty much there, waiting for a good story to be written. For example, something about Piotr on the First Cetagandan War. Also, how would you feel about opening Miles universe to another author?

Have you noticed? If you have read some of the "Rivers of London" series by Aaronovitch, you are aware that there really are multiple hidden rivers under London. They were once open rivers which have been built over or assigned to underground culverts. Discover Magazine, November/December 2021 issue, has an article by Natasha Khullar Relph, which explains how the city is bringing them back above ground again.
