How do you get inspired to write?

Kailin Gow Very long story, but I got inspired to write and was first published in 2001 because at that time, there was very little selection of books available for girls and young women in fantasy and adventure fiction, especially ones with a strong and empowering main girl character. I was volunteering as a emergency responder and pr person for the American Red Cross when 9-11 happened and saw how confused people were, especially children and came out with a series of middle grade books with the main characters being so-called ordinary girls who rose were empowered to rise to their potential to help rebuild their community, to help become leaders and initiators in their communities. Parts of that series' proceeds were donated to the American Red Cross, and my first book series sold thousands in paperback, becoming a bestseller (back in 2001) and was recommended by PBS Kids and the US Mental Health Association. I received such positive letters from girls all over, which helped inspired me to write more. I've been writing and publishing ever since!
