Goodreads asked Penelope Kaye:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Penelope Kaye I am part of a children's group that would meet monthly to encourage our writing. When all gatherings came to a standstill in 2020, the leaders decided to have us participate in a writing project, with the theme of "Summer in Montana."

I drew a blank, so I called my daughter and asked her what she remembered most about her childhood summer days. She recalled quite a few activities, including the county fair. But nothing connected with my writing muse. I pressed her for more ideas, and she finally mentioned our annual trip to Yellowstone National Park. I asked for details. She talked about the buffalo, the geysers, Old Faithful, and then she said "the rotten egg smell." When I heard those words, I knew I had a book.

I Do Not Like the Rotten Egg Scent in Yellowstone National Park was born!
