What shall be the most important subjects that the reader should concentrate on to build a foundation and enhance his cultural knowledge?

There is no standard answer to this question. However, I surely believe that a reader should read in all areas of knowledge and literature, and to read especially for the writers that he does not agree with. This would challenge him to go into undiscovered lands of reading and knowledge.
