Ameer Hamza asked Afreen Rahat:

Asslam-o-Allaikum Miss Afreen would you please suggest me something about how could we easily describe the time period of a story in fiction books that doesn't have any specific kind of event. such as it is simple to tell a time period in pirates battles in the sea (which is Caribbean) or dinosaurs in a jungle (which is Jurassic) but what should we do with horror kind of stuff?

Afreen Rahat Assalamu alaikum Ameer Hamza,

Thank you for your question. It is a good one, and one that many writers struggle with. How do you describe the time period of a story when there is no specific event to anchor it?

There are a few things you can do. First, you can use language and imagery to create a sense of time and place. For example, if your story is set in the 19th century, you might use words like "carriage," "gaslight," and "tweed" to evoke the era. You could also describe the architecture, clothing, and customs of the time period.

Second, you can use historical events as a backdrop. For example, if your story is set during the Civil War, you could mention battles, political figures, and social movements. This will help your readers to understand the context of your story and to see how it is shaped by the times.

Finally, you can be creative. Don't be afraid to come up with your own way of describing the time period. The most important thing is to be consistent and to create a sense of immersion for your readers.

Here are a few examples of how you could describe the time period of a horror story:

"The old house creaked and groaned in the wind, its dark windows like empty eye sockets."
"The fog rolled in like a thick blanket, obscuring the path ahead."
"The sound of the crickets chirping in the darkness was like a thousand whispers."
These are just a few ideas, of course. The best way to describe the time period of your story is to use your own imagination and creativity.

I hope this helps!

Wasalam,
Afreen
