Goodreads asked Andrew Welsh-Huggins:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Andrew Welsh-Huggins First: give yourself permission to call yourself a writer, even if you haven't published anything yet. It's an honorable craft and one you should embrace. Second: read widely in the genre you hope to publish in, both past and current titles. Third: read widely in other genres to flex your reading muscles. Fourth: if possible, designate a single place where you plan to write, whether at a desk, on a couch, in your car, or wherever, and make that your writing spot. Fifth: within reason, choose the time you plan to write, whether early morning, your lunch hour, evenings, or only on weekends (there's no right answer), and try to work during that time every day, even if it means writing just a few sentences. Finally, prepare to play the long game. You're a writer not for months or years but decades.
