Goodreads asked Sally Johnson:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Sally Johnson I was lucky enough to have a mentor, Becca Wilhite, who I met through a friend. She answered my initial questions and pointed me to a couple of FB writing groups. I went to a couple of writing conferences. Not only did I learn a lot in the classes, I was able to make friends and meet contacts that were extremely helpful. It always helps to meet an editor and be able to have that point-of-reference when you submit something to them.

Obviously, keep writing is also important. :)

And finally, I do not write my stories from beginning to end. I write them according to the ideas I get. If I get a great idea for the middle of the story, I write the middle of the story. It's easy enough to go back and fill in the other parts of the story later.
