Goodreads asked Aric Davis:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Aric Davis Write, and write, and write. Read Writer's Market and submit manuscripts to any agent or editor who is taking submissions in your chosen genre, and write them personalized queries, always adhering to their submission guidelines.

Set up a daily word count-for me this number is 2,000 words a day, and then write that amount every day until your book is finished. If you started tomorrow and had a plan to write 500 words a day, you'd be finished with an 80,000 word novel in 160 days.

Mostly, however, just write, especially when you don't want to.
