Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Stuart Haddon After writing two thrillers, I decided it was time to write a literary novel. I wanted it to be set in my native Scotland and I wanted it to deal with coming of age, community and nationhood. Because my previous novels were mildly post-apocalyptic, I found myself drawn to that context again. I also had a starting place in mind - a tiny village under a mountain in the north west of Scotland. The novel took shape from that beginning and I'm now on chapter ten.
