For me, it isn't about the recognition, and it certainly isn't about the money! If you figured out how much you earned on an hourly basis, you would never be a writer. For me, it is honestly the self-satisfaction that comes from creating something, the pure love of telling stories, and being able to share my stories to those who appreciate them.
