What's that famous quote? "I write when I'm inspired, and I see to it that I'm inspired at 9am every morning." *sigh* I wish that was me.
I am most inspired when a book is fledgling--still new and exciting and revealing itself to me as the writer. I pull together visual collages of characters, creatures, places and then start working on any research I might need before writing the story. And I get to know the characters and what makes them tick. All of that is fun and inspiring.
But I have two little writing assistants who know the drill. As soon as they see me pouring a cup of tea in the morning they plod their way up to the front of the house and flop down in the study. They know the day begins there. So as long as I have them, I'm in the mood.
