Goodreads asked Zoe Carmina:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Zoe Carmina You know, I really like science. Even as a child I was fascinated by it. So naturally in my adulthood, this fascination has carried over. As a 10 year old, I really loved the Time Quintet by Madeline L'engle, and I thought to myself, "Just how cool would it be to bring that kind of scientific knowledge and wonder to something I wrote?"

So I started out thinking about these three young children, sitting around playing together unhappily on a cloudy day. And I knew that each of them would be driven by different motivations, and that they each came from separate backgrounds, so they would of course have different activities that they would find fun or interesting.

And then I tasked each child with a multiverse theory, thinking, "What if these children all played out different scenarios where they went out and had these adventures, and each child's adventure functioned with the physics required in a different multiverse theory." And the story just kind of took shape from there.
