Holly Anderson asked Alka Joshi:

I was SO excited to see the Perfumist of Paris! It may be my favorite so far. Thank you SO MUCH for the huge gift in allowing us to live inside their lives. It moved me deeply to witness your treatment of Hari. It seems easy to find villains in the world, and much more difficult for the villains to be redeemed. I hope you have plans for many more stories for these characters. What comes next?

Alka Joshi Yes, Hari has been a good character to explore, and I’m glad you appreciate his transformation. I love creating characters that have good and bad in them, just as we all have those opposing traits in us. And when characters like Hari take over your writing and start creating their own journeys, that’s when you know you’re onto something :-).

Next up: a story loosely based on the real-life Indian painter Amrita Sher-Gil. It’s set in 1937. Research involved an extensive trip to Europe! More as I write...
