I'd say my interest built gradually -- a bit like rolling a big snowball. As a kid I was into sports statistics and games like Rush Hour. Later on I got excited about the whole idea of proof (first in a 9th-grade geometry class, and then especially when I got to see a proof-based version of calculus). And since becoming a teacher and writer, my interest has continued to grow!
