Hi Lori! I just finished "Maybe You Should Talk to Someone" and I'm curious, has your perspective on virtual therapy shifted at all since the pandemic? In the book you seem partial to in-person therapy because of reading body language and added intimacy. Did you have virtual sessions during the pandemic? How did they go? Do you see different benefits to virtual therapy now than you did before? Thanks for your time!
Lori Gottlieb
That's a great question! I've talked about this a lot in interviews since then, and while I'll always prefer in-person, I've found great value in virtual sessions as well. In fact, have you listened to my DEAR THERAPISTS podcast? Each episode is a real session with a real person, and the sessions are done via Zoom (you just hear the audio on the podcast). Those sessions go very deep, even though we're on Zoom. Take a listen... I'll be curious to hear what you think!

Hi Lori! I loved your book. Is there an appropriate way to suggest to someone that they seek out therapy without sounding like you know what's best for them? My husband has chronic illness and I think would benefit from having someone to talk to (in addition to getting over historical family issues), but he "doesn't believe in therapy" - any advice would help! I look forward to reading more of your books

First of all, I loved the book. I've been in therapy for a long time myself, and I always wonder what the therapist is thinking... And I have been considering going back to school myself to become a therapist in my late 30s after working as a writer my whole career. What was it like for you changing careers, and how do you think your writing background helps you as a therapist?

I love how writing helps me figure out events in my own life or see threads that I didn't know existed before. What sort of epiphanies did you have while writing MAYBE YOU SHOULD TALK TO SOMEONE? Was there anything you didn't understand about yourself until you were in the process of writing this?
