Your Blackthorn & Grim series moved me with it's genius character building and storytelling. I'm wondering if you've read any good fantasy lately that has shown you as wonderful of a time? Looking to the person who has written some of my all time favourite novels for a rec. What fantasy novels have had you clutching the book tearfully to your bosom with gratitude? 😁 (Because that's me, holding your books).
Juliet Marillier
Hi Amy. I'm so delighted that you loved Blackthorn & Grim!
Not sure about the tearful clutching, but there are several fantasy novels I've read and really loved recently:
The Winter Knight by Jes Battis (characters from the Arthurian legend reincarnated in present day Vancouver; a really good neurodiverse protagonist)
The Briar Book of the Dead by Angela Slatter (coming out soon; I got an advance copy. A fantastic ghost story, fantasy verging on horror, lots of folklore)
Thornhedge by T Kingfisher (my favourite fantasy author; a brilliant take on Sleeping Beauty)
Note, what I read is usually not very much like what I write!
all the best, Juliet

I have just finished the Sevenwater series. I finished the books and each one is stunning in it's own way. I can't help but feel a deep pain for Ciaran's fate. Is there a way you could write a passage of some sort of Niamphs spirit reaching him, even if it's within this response?

Hello there, Ms. Marilier, my name is Iris! I would first like to say how much I have loved the Sevenwaters series, Daughter of the Forest and Son of the Shadows especially. Since they were recommended to me, I devoured them back to back. Your writing is beautiful, with such imagery, love, pain, and strength. Your books changed my life.
My question for you is, why did Sorcha meet her fate as she did?
