Hello Nick, if you had a friend who hasn't read any fantasy book except Lord of the Rings, what books would you recommend to him to get started? (not counting your work)

Hey. Hmm...I think Joe Abercrombie is an excellent example of a modern fantasy author who, in my opinion, gets better with each book. He could either start at the very beginning or check out Joe's upcoming book The Devils, which is set in a while new world than his First Law series and is, I think, a great place to start.
The Lies of Locke Lamora (while not that modern anymore!) is fantastic as well, and works perfectly as a standalone.
Also, Red Rising! While it's technically sci-fi, I DO think it's probably the best story currently being told by any human being on earth, so that's always a great option!
Hope that helps!

In “Bloody Rose”, couple questions... when Fable was in Ruangoth following Grudge, Rose mentioned not losing Grudge or they would be lost in the dark. Why would she say that if she had the pink shell in her bag that Moog gave her? Also doesn’t Freecloud have night vision?
2nd question Druins are immortal and Freecloud is a Druid. So is Freecloud immortal?

I just finished Bloody Rose which is fantastic and cannot wait for the third "band" book to come out.
While reading I had thought you were hinting at something that would be revealed later, but never did. Perhaps I was just reading too much into it or wishing for a connection. BUT I MUST KNOW. Is Tam's mother and Brune's mother the person? There was mentions of both mothers with similar qualities.

Hi Nicholas. Can't wait for Book 3. Had a quick question. I know you have said that you enjoy video games and often times you'll throw in some pop-culture into the prose. In Bloody Rose, there is a musical instrument named "Red Thirteen". I was just curious if this was a nod to the character from FF7? I know you said the FF series was a favorite of yours.
