Goodreads asked Michael McAfee:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Michael McAfee Don't let anyone tell you not to dream. Writing and storytelling are essential for those who are driven to express their dreams. If your grammar stinks, I say write. There are word processors and editors to fix the problems. Let no one kill your dream even if you and a select group of people will ever read your works. Also, DO NOT BE AFRAID to have someone read your works. If you're writing is your form of masturbation fine, but writing is meant to be shared with others. Some people will love it, and others will hate it. You can not please everyone. Relish the people who like your works, and learn from those who criticize it. Who knows, the ones who critics might be fans one day.
