Goodreads asked Pixie Lynn Whitfield:

How do you get inspired to write?

Pixie Lynn Whitfield Reading. It's true: To be a writer, you should be a reader. I've never understood how I can meet people that say they hate reading. It actually breaks my heart a little bit. But yes, most of the time I get inspired by reading a great book or two and from there small ideas spark of my own. I develop them through time, dedication and a lot of late nights into outlines and later a rough manuscript.
And then sometimes I'm simply inspired by strange dreams after insomnia strikes and I'm awake for 16-18 hours or more. Haha. It just all depends on whatever it is that causes the little spark. Whether it's from reading (a character, a setting, even a particular word), a dream, an episode from a television show... or whatever. My imagination goes pretty wild from the oddest things and inspiration sparks.
