Lois McMaster Bujold:
What message or emotion do you hope readers take away from your books after finishing it?
Lois McMaster Bujold
I don't write to deliver a "message". That would be rather thudding. My normal process is to set my characters up with an initial problem, turn them loose, and let them show me their stories. Thus, I get to learn as much along the way as they do.
Judging by reviews and fan mail, what my readers take away from their wildly varied readings (of the same texts mind) is, well, first, totally beyond my control. Though I hope it will include, "Huh, that wasn't bad. I wonder what else she's written?" With perhaps a side order of "Eh, maybe I won't slit my wrists today," but that part is also beyond my control, so.

Not a question, just a Thankyou. I am really enjoying the Penric novellas, not just for the content (which is excellent) but also for the Serial Form, it takes me back to being a kid when serial instalments where all the go and, even though we would be hanging out for the "next instalment" we didn't have to wait ages for another exciting adventure. Love having a really good read more frequently. Thanks Lois!?

In this past year I've discovered audio books. Now I own your entire collection in three formats! (Hoarder, much?) I've found that some books really shine when read aloud, no matter who reads them, some shine when presented by a great narrator and some have all their deficits glaringly exposed by being voiced aloud. (Yours shine. Like the sun!) What has been your experience as author and a listener with audio format?
