Anf asked V.S. Lawrence:

When did you realise you had an idea in your head that was going to become the creation of your book? And do you feel about all you ideas in the same way?

V.S. Lawrence One night, as I was going to bed, I smelled hairspray. I thought "huh, that would be fun...a ghost that you knew was around because of the smell of hairspray." The next day, I wrote just the phrase "80s ghosts?" in my notebook. It took a while for the story to work itself out, but I knew I needed a book about ghosts from the 1980s.

Not every idea I have is a good one. Or, I think it's fantastic at the time, then a day later I realize it's truly awful. But I'd say I've got a few more ideas I think would be really fun books, and I'm working on some of them now!
