Lisa Welch asked Chris Pavone:

What does your writing environment and writing process look like?

Chris Pavone When my kids were little, I left my job at a publishing house and became a ghostwriter. I couldn't work at home because the children were usually in the apartment, and they wouldn't stand for a parent hanging around on a computer. I halfheartedly looked for office space, but I'd just spent two decades going to offices every day, so instead I joined a private club. The room I work in is much like a hotel lobby, with tables and sofas and people who bring me giant pots of coffee. I go there every morning after I drop the kids at school--it's a ten-minute walk from home--and I write until I run out of energy or get hungry, whichever comes first, but in no case before 11:30 or so.
