Katherine, I was really impressed with how much Sam grew throughout Dr. Mr. Knightly. Did you do a lot of research on the plight of foster-care children or was it a subject that was just on your heart and your characters grew from there?

Katherine Reay Rebekah, It was a little of both. I did a ton of research, but took no notes -- so once I started writing Sam's story it would be uniquely hers. I also looked at the way that those of of who have not experienced such challenging childhoods deal with pain, isolation, fear -- and how we learn to love, let people in and become "softer."

I'm so glad you enjoyed Sam's story. She was a tough character for me at times, but she felt authentic. I appreciate your kind words about her journey. Thanks!

Hello! I first just want to say how much I loved Dear Mr. Knightley - it was absolutely wonderful! I'm recommending it to all my fellow Janeites, and I'm trying to get my brother (who's not a JA fan) to read it too! Anyway, I was just wondering this: if DMK was ever made into a movie, who would you envision in the main roles? I know this is kind of a silly question, but I was just curious. :) Thank you! -Hannah
