Goodreads asked Sofia Black:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Sofia Black Go for it! Seriously. When you start out, your writing probably won't be brilliant. In fact, it might be downright embarrassing. That's good, and it's normal. The only way to improve is to keep practicing. I still have some of the stories I wrote in elementary school and middle school, and I take them out and read them every now and then. It's a little painful, but it's a much-needed reminder that I've improved over the years, and the only reason I improved (and will continue to improve) is because I kept practicing.

Also, make use of critique groups. It can be intimidating, the idea of sharing your writing with people who are more-or-less strangers, but getting outside eyes on your work is a BIG part of improving. Sometimes, you're just too close to your writing to see what needs changed or where you can improve.
