I was on a rescue in Cordova, Alaska. A 40 bowpicker by the name of wideload, had pitch-poled incoming at the entrance. We found the capsized vessel floundering in 4-5ft surf. I do need a gumbie suit and dove under for survivors. My head (thank God for the helmet I worked) was ultimately trapped between the gun whale and sand. To this day I attribute my escape to the begnign interdiction of a mermaid.
