Stella Brighton
Stella Brighton asked Brigid Barry:

What was the eeriest part of writing Straw Girl? Does it still unsettle you when you think about it—and why?

Brigid Barry Writing Straw Girl started with me transcribing the dozens of EVPs (electronic voice phenomena) from the paranormal investigations at my house. It took hours with headphones on, listening to disembodied voices and hoarse whispers over and over again to make sure I had them down exactly right. The ones that occurred when we clearly had no idea were the most disturbing. I am unsettled sometimes because I was warned to not engage with spirits, and to not play certain recordings again. My home is blissfully quiet (read: free from spirits), and I'd like it to stay that way!
