My theory is that his mental status was a little “iffy” before going in, but he was covering it up with his “jovial/fun” attitude. The stress of the experience broke him and he developed some “stockholm syndrome” like reaction to the show’s employees while he was recovering from his dehydration, idealizing them and all their actions. Just a theory

It didn't even matter to me. There was no character development and I didn't care about any character. It was all fluff.
