Kate asked Gale Ian Tate:

How did you plan Immersed, with all the respawns and Levi's realizations as he progresses through the game?

Gale Ian Tate So my writing process is chaos usually, but for IMMERSED I was drawing maps of the different configurations of the building, all the clues that could have been gathered, monster locations, and traps. I also kept a list of ways I definitely wanted to kill Levi and Asher 😅

So to answer your question: a stack of hand drawn maps. For the NPCs that would still be alive, I rolled dice to decide that. I had 5 more horrifying monsters they could have encountered, a bunch of puzzles, like 15 clues that could have helped, but as I worked through the story, I realized Levi would definitely miss a good chunk of them because Asher was being Asher.

Levi's fumbling through his first few resets in the sanitarium are VERY MUCH based on how I played Outlast the first time: I got scared, ran around like a ding dong, and died a lot.
