Goodreads asked Scott D Carlson:

What books are on your summer reading list this year?

Scott D Carlson I read Italo Svevo's "Zeno's Conscience," which is not an easy read but a rewarding one. It's a little-known gem by a little-known writer who lived in Trieste, Italy. He knew James Joyce, and Joyce like the book. I also read a novel by another "italo," Italo Calvino--If On a Winter's Night a Traveler. Calvino loved to explore with form, and "Winter's Night" is wildly that.
