Olivia Fey
Olivia Fey asked Jessica Khoury:

Where did you get the idea of weaving magic in "The Moorwitch"? Does that come from any sort of Scottish fable or lore, or did you create that yourself?!

Jessica Khoury I think the inspiration came from a combination of things: the legend of the Fates/Moirai, the history of women using thread crafts throughout history as a quiet but subversive form of revolution, my own absolute admiration for anyone who can sew/knit/etc as my attempts have always been disastrous--to me it really is magic! There was no specific Scottish lore that inspired it, but if you read through the old folklore (of Scotland and most any other culture) the idea of threads as magic is a recurring motif. I loved pulling out all those little references and combining them into one grand system of magic.
