Sunyi Dean Not silly at all! Alcohol is technically poison, for both humans and book eaters. It is non-nutritious for Devon, and she wouldn't (for example) absorb any calories or nutrients from it, but it still negatively impacts her cognitively and slows her down, more or less like it does for humans.

Devon can theoretically eat some human food, in the way that we can theoretically as humans consume some forms of paper, but she would find it a miserable experience, similar to how we'd be pretty miserable trying to eat books... and ultimately, she cant' survive off our food, just as we'd starve if there was nothing but paper around.

But in truth, nothing about the book eating works in a scientific way haha. There's a degree of absurdness and handwavium involved in the basic concept that I could never get away with.
