Ray J asked J.R. Rice:

You wrote you've always loved werewolf stories. What werewolf stories did you find most inspiring as a writer?

J.R. Rice When I was a little boy, my Uncle Jim used to tell me stories about a giant wolf that walked on two legs and liked to eat little children. It was an ongoing tale and he had a new story each time I saw him. He got a kick out of scaring me; I enjoyed it as well. Growing up, I watched every werewolf movie I could find... later in life I decided to start writing my own stories. In chapter 8 of Forgotten Moon, James Clark has a flat tire on Highway 50 in his 1964 Lincoln Continental (my uncles car). This was a nod to my late Uncle Jim. I thought it was fitting that he finally meet the werewolf he told me about in my childhood... turnabout is fair play.
