Sophia asked David Sanz Fernández:

Hi David, I came across your profile and was really impressed by your work in game writing and translation. Your experience across JRPGs and narrative design is fascinating. I’d love to ask what originally inspired you to begin writing for games?

David Sanz Fernández Thank you so much for your message! That’s very kind of you to say.

Just to clarify, I haven’t actually worked as a game writer myself. My professional background is in translation, reviews, and, occasionally, product management decisions in the videogame industry. So my involvement has always been close to the narrative side, but not directly in writing scripts for games.

That said, videogames have shaped my way of telling stories in a very deep way. The structure of quests, the way characters relate to each other, the sense of exploration, and even how I describe environments all carry a strong influence from JRPGs and narrative-driven games. It’s not just homage: it’s part of how I naturally build worlds and tension on the page.

So while I don’t write for games, games have absolutely helped shape the kind of stories I tell :)
