Goodreads asked David W. Gordon:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

David W. Gordon Read. Then, read more. I would suggest that an aspiring writer spend at least 2/3rds of their time reading. As far as writing goes, the best advice I can give beyond reading is to allow characters to develop naturally and allow them to influence he plot as they would if they were real people. All to often, a writer gets a plot in their head and does not want to change it. As characters grow throughout your novel, it may require changes in the plot to allow those characters to remain true to themselves. Let that happen, rather than fighting it.
