If I'm not actively writing, I'm thinking about it -- often describing characters or situations in my head. That's my definition of my muse: a voice inside that constantly spins ideas and tosses them my way. If I don't pay attention -- if I don't write down the good stuff somehow, even on a napkin or a paper scrap from the kitchen counter -- the muse slows down or stops churning, as if feeling unappreciated. My muse can be a bit of a diva.
