Tracy Hall
Tracy Hall asked Keith R.A. DeCandido:

What draws you to your tie-in projects? Are there any that you just say no to because you're not interested?

Keith R.A. DeCandido It would take a very special set of circumstances for me to turn down a tie-in project. On those occasions when I have turned one down, it's usually been for reasons that have nothing to do with the project itself, but rather an untenable deadline or an inability to come to terms on compensation.

Indeed, I've done several tie-in projects where I was utterly unfamiliar with the property beforehand -- but I'm also a big-ass research junkie, so I then immersed myself in the world in question. I did this, for example, with GENE RODDENBERRY'S ANDROMEDA, which I knew of and had seen maybe two episodes of, but then was offered the chance to write a tie-in book. I dove into it with both feet and became a fan of the show from the process of doing research. Ditto for WORLD OF WARCRAFT (which became my most successful novel to date).
