Hello! Long time reader, first time questioner. I read your response that the surname Meiklejohn for Uncle Albert was an intentional choice. I just realized Mikey and Lady Smallhope share a first name. Might it be a family name for both of them, and possibly the same family? Also, in the US, Mikey and Adrien (or Adrienne) are names commonly used for the opposite gender. Did you consider that?

Hi. Thanks for your question. I haven't quite worked out in which direction I'm going to take that particular thread - which is a posh author's way of saying I haven't a clue and might have written myself into a corner and why don't I ever plan ahead? With luck and much alcohol something will occur to me.

Hi Jodi, simple question: In the St. Mary's books, why did you go for "an historian" instead of "a historian"? I get it that "h" is a weak consonant, but for other combinations like "a hideous" or "a hindrance", you use "a" (thank goodness my ebook reader has a search function). I'm not an English native speaker (I'm German) but I'm very interested in details like this. Is there a quirky rule that I'm not aware of?

Markham is one of my favourite characters and he seems to become increasingly mysterious with each book. I have developed a great many number of Theories (tm). Are we ever going to find out more about his background? (And is that letter (you know perfectly well which one!) perhaps just a red herring?)
