Do you genre-ize your books before you write them? Do you ever worry your books won't fit in a specific genre, or is that a good thing?

I actually don't think in terms of genre at all while I'm writing. I just try to think of the story that I want to tell, and the best way to tell it. Genre has more to do with marketing, and that comes later.

Dear Lauren Oliver, When it comes to my future career someday (after I've tackled high school and college) I wish to be a Professor of Literature, and an author. I've been told by my friends and family that I'm good at writing. However, writing a book outside of school and other activities, I sometimes find myself not in the writing/productive mood when I need to get into it, or get creative. Any author tips?
